Dark, dramatic and incredibly romantic, Elegance Pansy ‘Velvet Ribbon’ is a rare Japanese pansy bred by renowned hybridizer Isao Sato. A striking member of the Japanese Elegance Pansy Series, Velvet Ribbon is especially loved for its extravagant ruffling and unusually rich coloring.
Its extraordinary, heavily ruffled blooms appear in luxurious shades of deep burgundy, wine, raspberry, plum and near-black, often finished with brighter magenta or rose-colored edging. The petals twist and fold into remarkably full flowers that look almost too elaborate to be pansies.
Color, markings and intensity naturally vary from plant to plant, giving every Velvet Ribbon its own unique character. Cooler spring temperatures can help bring out the deepest, richest tones.
Available for Spring 2027 preorder as Velvet Ribbon pansy plugs for shipping or local pickup, and as 4" potted plants for local pickup.

This is a pre-order for Spring 2027. Payment is collected when your order is placed to reserve your plants. Because your plants are specially grown and reserved for you, pre-orders are considered final once placed and cannot be cancelled or refunded due to a change of mind.
Expected availability:
- 3-Pack Pansy Plugs: Early March 2027 — shipping or local pickup
- 4" Potted Plants: April 2027 — local pickup only
Availability dates are approximate and may vary slightly depending on growing conditions. If Thief of Weeds is unable to fulfill an item in your order, you will be contacted and refunded for the unavailable item.
Live Plant Shipping
We are currently accepting pre-orders for live pansy and viola plants to all U.S. states except Alaska and Hawaii.
Because live plant shipping requirements vary by state, all orders are subject to the agricultural regulations of the destination state. We will review any applicable requirements before your plants are shipped.
If we are unable to legally ship live plants to your state, your order will be canceled and fully refunded.
Shipping dates may also be adjusted due to extreme temperatures or unsafe weather conditions to help protect your plants during transit.
Velvet Ribbon pansy plug orders are expected to begin shipping in March 2027.
