Refund policy
Refund, Cancellation, Shipping & Product Guarantee Policy
At Thief of Weeds, we take pride in growing healthy plants and fresh, locally grown flowers. Because flowers and dahlia tubers are living, perishable products, natural variations and circumstances outside our control may affect their appearance and performance.
This policy explains our guarantees, cancellation terms, pickup and delivery requirements, shipping practices, and procedures for reporting a concern.
Fresh Flowers
Seasonal Availability and Substitutions
Our flowers are grown locally and selected according to what is blooming on the farm at the time of your order. Specific flower varieties cannot be guaranteed.
Flower varieties, colors, foliage, and vase styles may vary from the photographs shown on our website. When substitutions are necessary, we will make every reasonable effort to maintain the overall size, value, color palette, and garden-inspired style of the product ordered.
Natural differences in flower color, shape, size, stem direction, and appearance are not considered defects.
Fresh-Flower Cancellations
Seasonal Bouquets, Petite Arrangements, and Lush Arrangements may be canceled for a full refund when notice is received at least 48 hours before the scheduled pickup or delivery date.
Cancellations received less than 48 hours before the scheduled date are not eligible for a refund because the flowers may have already been harvested and prepared.
Flower Buckets and other event orders require at least one week’s advance notice. These orders may be canceled for a full refund when notice is received at least seven days before the scheduled pickup or delivery date.
Flower Bucket and event-order cancellations received less than seven days before the scheduled date are nonrefundable.
Approved refunds will be returned to the original payment method. Processing times may vary depending on the customer’s bank or payment provider.
Changes to a Fresh-Flower Order
Requests to change the pickup date, delivery date, product size, quantity, or requested color palette are subject to availability.
Please contact us as soon as possible when a change is needed. We cannot guarantee changes requested within 48 hours of pickup or delivery or within seven days of a Flower Bucket or event order.
Farm Pickup
Customers are responsible for collecting their flowers during the agreed-upon pickup window.
If you are unable to arrive during your scheduled pickup time, please contact us as soon as possible. Orders that are not collected within 24 hours of the scheduled pickup time may be considered abandoned and are not eligible for a refund.
Fresh flowers should not be left inside a hot vehicle, exposed to freezing temperatures, or allowed to remain without water. Thief of Weeds is not responsible for damage that occurs after an order has been picked up.
Local Delivery
Local delivery is available only for eligible products and locations shown at checkout or confirmed directly with Thief of Weeds.
The customer is responsible for providing a complete and accurate delivery address, telephone number, and any necessary delivery instructions.
When no one is available to receive the flowers, the order may be left in a reasonably safe and sheltered location. Thief of Weeds is not responsible for damage caused by heat, cold, rain, animals, theft, or extended exposure after delivery.
Problems With a Fresh-Flower Order
We want you to be happy with your flowers. Please inspect your order promptly after pickup or delivery.
If your flowers arrive damaged, an item is missing, or the order does not reasonably match the product purchased, please contact us within 24 hours of pickup or delivery.
Please include:
-
Your name
-
Your order number
-
A description of the concern
-
Clear photographs showing the issue
-
The date and time of pickup or delivery
After reviewing the concern, we may offer, at our discretion:
-
A replacement, when flowers are available
-
A partial or full refund
-
Store credit toward a future purchase
Because fresh flowers are perishable, concerns reported more than 24 hours after pickup or delivery may not qualify for a replacement, refund, or store credit.
Fresh-Flower Care
For the best vase life, place flowers in clean water promptly, trim the stems as needed, and keep the arrangement away from direct sunlight, heat sources, drafts, and ripening fruit.
Thief of Weeds cannot guarantee a specific vase life because flower longevity is affected by variety, temperature, transportation, water quality, environmental conditions, and care after pickup or delivery.
Refunds are not available for flowers damaged by improper handling, lack of water, extreme temperatures, delayed pickup, or failure to follow basic care instructions.
Weather and Farm Conditions
Severe weather, crop failure, pest damage, disease, or other conditions outside our control may affect flower availability.
If we are unable to fulfill an order, we will contact the customer as soon as possible and offer an alternative product, a different pickup or delivery date, store credit, or a refund.
Flower Bucket Deposit
When a refundable bucket deposit is included in the purchase price, the bucket must be returned clean and undamaged within 14 days of pickup or delivery.
Once the bucket has been returned and accepted, the stated deposit amount will be refunded to the original payment method.
Buckets returned late, damaged, or excessively dirty may not qualify for a deposit refund.
Dahlia Tubers
At Thief of Weeds, we take pride in growing and providing healthy, high-quality dahlia tubers. Each tuber is inspected before shipment, and we only send tubers that we believe are capable of producing a healthy plant.
Dahlia tubers are natural products, so their size, shape, and appearance will vary by variety. Some may be small, slightly wrinkled, or unusually shaped. These natural differences do not necessarily affect viability.
Every tuber is sold individually rather than as a clump and will include at least one visible or viable eye.
Our Growing Practices
Our dahlias are regularly observed throughout the growing season for signs of disease, poor growth, and possible virus symptoms.
Tools are sanitized between varieties when cutting flowers and dividing tubers. Plants showing concerning symptoms are removed from our field.
We make every reasonable effort to provide tubers that are healthy, correctly labeled, and true to variety. However, dahlias are living plants grown outdoors rather than in sterile conditions. Insects, weather, soil conditions, neighboring plants, and other environmental factors can affect plant health.
All dahlia tubers sold by Thief of Weeds are grown domestically in Pennsylvania and are not imported.
Dahlia Tuber Guarantee
We guarantee that each dahlia tuber shipped by Thief of Weeds will:
-
Have at least one viable eye
-
Be viable at the time of shipment
-
Be labeled true to variety to the best of our ability
If a tuber arrives rotten, damaged, severely dried out, or otherwise nonviable, contact us within 72 hours of delivery.
Please include:
-
Your name
-
Your order number
-
A description of the concern
-
Clear photographs of the tuber
-
Photographs of the packaging and shipping label
-
The date the package was delivered
After reviewing the issue, we may offer, at our discretion:
-
A replacement tuber, when inventory is available
-
A refund of the affected tuber’s purchase price
-
Store credit toward a future purchase
Our guarantee is limited to the amount paid for the affected tuber. Original shipping charges, processing fees, and costs related to planting, labor, crop loss, or replacement plants are not refundable.
What the Dahlia Guarantee Does Not Cover
Because growing and storage conditions are outside our control after delivery, our guarantee does not cover losses caused by:
-
Improper storage before planting
-
Improper planting depth or timing
-
Overwatering or underwatering
-
Poor drainage or unsuitable soil
-
Frost, freezing, flooding, drought, excessive heat, hail, or wind
-
Insect, pest, rodent, or animal damage
-
Fertilizer damage or nutrient imbalance
-
Herbicide or chemical injury
-
Disease developing after delivery
-
Failure to follow planting and care instructions
-
Neglect or other growing practices outside our control
Reselling or transferring a tuber to another grower voids the guarantee.
Dahlia Virus Policy
We take dahlia health seriously and monitor our plants for suspicious symptoms throughout the growing season. We sanitize tools between varieties and remove or test plants when signs of a possible problem appear.
Despite careful growing practices, no outdoor dahlia field can be guaranteed completely free of virus. Viruses may be spread by insects, tools, neighboring plants, or environmental exposure. Infected plants do not always show visible symptoms.
By purchasing dahlia tubers, the customer acknowledges that plant viruses are a natural risk associated with growing dahlias.
We do not guarantee that a tuber will remain virus-free after planting, and we do not provide refunds based solely on suspected virus symptoms developing after delivery.
If you believe a plant is showing signs of virus, please contact us with clear photographs so we can document and review the concern.
Tuber Storage Before Planting
Open and inspect your package promptly after delivery.
Until planting time, store tubers in a cool, dark, frost-free location. A temperature of approximately 45–50°F is generally suitable.
Protect tubers from freezing, overheating, excessive moisture, and excessive drying.
Tubers may be stored in lightly packed vermiculite, wood shavings, or another appropriate storage medium. The storage medium should protect the tubers from excessive moisture loss without remaining wet.
Once an order has been delivered, the customer is responsible for proper storage and care. Shriveling, rot, freezing, overheating, or other damage caused by storage conditions after delivery is not covered by our guarantee.
Dahlia Tuber Shipping
We will begin shipping dahlia tubers in the spring and will carefully monitor weather conditions at our farm, along the shipping route, and at the customer’s destination.
Because protecting the tubers is our priority, orders may not ship in the exact order in which they were received.
Customers will receive tracking information when their packages are on the way. All dahlia tuber orders will ship by May 15.
Orders may be shipped using USPS, UPS, or FedEx depending on package size, destination, rates, weather conditions, and carrier availability.
Shipping is available within the United States only.
Current shipping rates are:
-
1–5 Dahlia Tubers: $12
-
6–10 Dahlia Tubers: $16
-
11–25 Dahlia Tubers: $26
-
26–34 Dahlia Tubers: $35
-
35 or More Dahlia Tubers: $45
Shipping rates may be updated from season to season and are calculated automatically at checkout.
Lost, Delayed, or Damaged Packages
Customers are responsible for entering a complete and accurate shipping address.
Once a package has been accepted by the shipping carrier, delivery timing is outside our direct control.
Please contact us promptly if tracking shows that a package is lost, substantially delayed, or damaged in transit.
Photographs of the box, shipping label, packaging, and damaged contents may be required so that we can submit a carrier claim.
Thief of Weeds is not responsible for:
-
Packages delivered to an incorrect address entered by the customer
-
Packages left unclaimed or uncollected
-
Packages left exposed to freezing temperatures, extreme heat, rain, or other damaging conditions after delivery
-
Delays caused by the shipping carrier, weather, or circumstances outside our control
Dahlia Order Changes and Cancellations
Because dahlia tubers are limited, seasonal inventory, all dahlia tuber sales are final except as specifically provided under our Dahlia Tuber Guarantee.
Once an order has been placed, we cannot guarantee cancellations, additions, removals, substitutions, or other changes.
When a customer places an additional order, we may combine shipments when practical. Any excess shipping refund will be determined after deducting applicable processing or transaction fees.
Variety Accuracy
We carefully label and track our dahlia varieties and make every reasonable effort to send the correct variety. However, human error is possible.
A possible mislabel usually cannot be confirmed until the plant blooms.
Claims involving variety accuracy must be submitted by August 1 of the purchase year and must include photographs clearly showing the entire plant and bloom.
When a variety is confirmed to have been mislabeled, our responsibility is limited to the original purchase price of the affected tuber or store credit of equal value.
Flower Color and Photography
We make every reasonable effort to photograph our dahlias accurately. However, flower color may vary based on:
-
Growing climate and location
-
Temperature and sunlight
-
Soil conditions
-
Stage of bloom
-
Time of season
-
Camera and lighting conditions
-
Computer, telephone, and screen settings
A dahlia may therefore appear somewhat different in person than it does in a product photograph. Natural color variation is not considered mislabeling.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Thief of Weeds is not responsible for labor, materials, lost income, lost profits, crop failure, replacement costs, event expenses, or other indirect or consequential losses related to fresh flowers, dahlia tubers, plants, delivery, or shipping.
Any refund, replacement, or store credit is limited to the original purchase price of the affected product unless otherwise required by law.
